On Saturday, February 22, 2003 a group of Christian believers met to discuss a mission. The mission would be to ultimately establish a church for members seeking to fellowship together in harmony and peace. The first church service was held Sunday, March 9, 2003 as Keion Henderson serving as pastor. At this first church service 27 new persons became members of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Church services were held at Eagle's Nest Youth Center on Hessen Cassel Rd. Services started at 1:00 PM because another church used the same facilities in the morning. Bible study was held at the same location on Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Services were held at this location for three months.

On Sunday, May 4, 2003, services were held in a new location 3039 Piqua Ave. where we presided for a year. Prior to our lease expiring at Piqua Ave, Pastor Henderson began looking at our alternatives and decided that weed needed a permanent place to worship. He knew God had a plan for our next move because as a new church only organized for one year, we could obtain the finances to purchase our new church building.

On May 2, 2004, we paraded, with police escorts to our current location 2601 Alma Ave. On August 8, 2004, members of the church voted unanimously to change the name from Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church to New Horizon Baptist Church. The dedicatory services for our new building was held December 5, 2004 with Pastor Anthony Pettis presiding and The Greater Progressive Baptist Church as our guest. We thank God for that He has done and continues to do for us.

Under God's guidance, in the winter of 2008, Pastor Keion Henderson was called to Houston, Texas to pastor another church. In December 2008, New Horizon Baptist Church was blessed with Pastor Cedric Cheatham and he was installed as pastor February 2009. Cedic Cheatham was pastor until April 2015 when he was called to pastor another church in Saginaw, Mi.

For one year New Horizon was without a pastor, but God was covering us. With constant prayer and fasting we were blessed with a new pastor, Michael Latham Jr. He was installed June 12, 2016.

Look how God continues to cover us.
